Archive for March, 2013

Last year was such a disappointment for Pro-lifers at the federal level of government. Many people, including the hard-working Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List, wereprotect life, GOP really disappointed in the Republican candidate, especially when he waffle-stomped on the issue of abortion at the last minute. I believe that if he had had any backbone, he may have come at least a little closer to winning.

Frankly, it’s too hard for anyone, except maybe Ron Paul and now he’s retired, to stand firm on this issue. The deck seems to be stacked against anyone who wants to stand for righteousness. Our federal government is full of selfish politicians only interested in power and feathering their own nests. They make up an elite group that protects each other. It doesn’t matter whether they are Republican or Democrat. There’s no way to win at the federal level because of their wicked, elitist, bi-partisan club.

We can rejoice though, that at the state level, the people still have some power. There are many exciting things happening in a number of states.

First of all, I would like to encourage everyone to get involved at your local or state level. Don’t ignore sending donations to groups working at the federal level, such as SBA, but if you only have limited time, spend it where it will do the most good.

If you live in a state that is working hard to protect the unborn, then praise God, and write to your baby, stop abortioncongresspersons and thank them for their hard work. We often don’t contact our representatives until we’re angry about something. But those of you who live in Texas, Arkansas, North Dakota, or Mississippi especially need to let those who are responsible for the good things happening in your states know how much you appreciate their efforts. Other top Pro-life states are Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Virginia, Alabama, and South Carolina.

Here is a review of some of the exciting recent legislation:

Texas – Since January of this year, Texas now has a state-run health program for women that is better than the one they had under the federal government. And, they defunded Planned Parenthood (PP). This means that poor women in Texas can get care from facilities that do not just push abortion defund PPbecause that is how they make most of their money like PP does.

Arkansas – The Arkansas House of Representatives passed two bills limiting abortion on demand. As I write this I do not know if the governor has signed either into law. Call your governor and encourage him to do it. Thank your legislators for their efforts. While some may lament the “exception” clauses in the bills, thank God for small victories and press on for more. The tide is shifting in the right direction.

North Dakota – What a wonderful month for unborn babies in North Dakota! Let’s pray that their governor will sign all of the bills into law. This may make North Dakota the most Pro-life state in the country. Besides bills passed earlier in March, the legislature has now passed a personhood amendment. It will be an amendment to their constitution to be voted on by the people in November. If you are blessed enough to live in this state, start talking to all of your neighbors now. Even if you don’t live in this state, pray for them. It would be wonderful if this began a trend that would go all across the country. Several other bills are before the governor for his signature. Pray for Governor Dalrymple as he considers signing these.

Mississippi – Mississippians are doing their best to close down all of the abortion centers. The last one was being forced to close down because it didn’t meet the state’s safety laws. Abortion has not always been safe since legalized as promised by the pro-abortion adherents. Many women have died due to botched abortions.

Other states are chipping away at abortion on demand. In Florida, a bill has been filed to prohibit abortion for the purpose of selecting he child’s race or sex. Call and give your support to Representative Charles Van Zant and Senator Greg Evers. Some have criticized this bill because it doesn’t go far enough to end abortion, but let’s be realistic. It took us a long time to get to the place where women can demand abortion for any reason they want. It will take time to reverse the tide and remove all abortion from our land.

safest place for babyWe pray for the day when the most dangerous place for a baby will not be in the mother’s womb!!

We are thankful for the hardworking, faithful legislators who are defenders of the helpless. Pray for all of them and support them.

Unfortunately, there are other states that seem to be doing their best to limit protection for unborn human beings. The ten worst states are “states of shame,” that go beyond federal protection of abortion on demand.

An example of this is the fact that in Oregon, a 15-year-old girl can get a free sterilization even if her parents do not consent to the procedure. Oregon has some of the worst abortion laws in the country.

The other nine “states of shame” are Washington, California, New York, Vermont, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Hawaii, and Montana.

Washington topped the list for the fourth year in a row. It should come as no surprise then that Planned Parenthood is being sued for overbilling Washington State’s Medicaid program at least 50,000 times for a total of over $377 million dollars in illegal money. It would be interesting to do a survey to see if there is a correlation between fraud by Planned Parenthood and ease of abortion in the various states. Both activities are of course immoral. Organizations that deal in murdering helpless, unborn babies obviously do not have any conscience about cheating the taxpayers.

We pray that Congress will at last do a comprehensive investigation of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood’s grisly work should never have been funded by taxpayers in the first place; it is NOT constitutional.

If you live in one of these worst states join your local Pro-life group and find out what you can do to begin the legislative process for making changes in your state. There are organizations you can contact that will help you.

We’ve all heard of Rosie the Riveter. During WWII, women stepped up to the plate and did rosie the riveterneeded jobs while men were away fighting the battles. In other times in the past, men and women together combined efforts to win a war.

We are in a war now. The enemy has done a good job to make you think you are not at war; but, don’t believe it. If you don’t take action now our wonderful country, the United States of America as we know it today, will be gone. Our children will never know the freedoms we enjoyed. The government has been stripping away our liberties at a rapid pace over the last two decades. (For a summary, please see my February 11, 2013 post – “Good-bye, Land of the Free”.)

The first step is to admit that we are at war. Then we must face it and not hide out.
We can still use peaceful tactics to win our country back. This week, I will suggest several fronts to fight on. Every God-fearing, loyal American should pick at least one and get busy.

There is no more obvious place where the war is being waged than against the helpless unborn babies. If we won’t protect the defenseless then we will be as guilty as those Germans who did not defend the Jews in the 1930’s and 40’s. We must see that we are in a similar situation. (See my posting on February 27, 2013 on Kitty Werthmann.)

I suggest that we become “Annie the Agitator”.

1. Start at Home

jill-stanekJill Stanek was a registered nurse at an Illinois hospital when she discovered that babies were being born alive after a failed abortion and then left to die with no medical care. (Note: Illinois is the state where Obama “served” before becoming president. One of the only bills he voted on was the Infanticide bill. Your current leader thinks it is all right to kill born babies, not just unborn babies. Do you still think we are not at war?)

Jill has worked hard to end abortion since then. She has some good suggestions for all of us – start at home. We can wipe out abortion and win back the rights of the unborn if everyone will do whatever they can find to do no matter how small a job.

Jill advised, “Everybody has different passions and different gifts. There’s people who like to sit in front of their computer all day and there’s people who have a passion for sidewalk counseling. Then there are people who have that different kind of bravery who can go into an abortion mill undercover. People need to evaluate their strengths, the gifts they’ve been given both through education and by God. You don’t need a blog to make an impact. There’s an easy place to get involved. Go online, Google abortion and find and abortion article to leave a comment. It will take a few minutes. If you don’t have time to do much, you have time to make a comment, and there are people in the middle (of the abortion debate) that are reading these comments. That’s overlooked but it’s very important…..Where are you right now? Look around. Jesus reached out to his little circle in Jerusalem. He started at home. Don’t make it hard. Start at home.”

I would like to add to Jill’s suggestions that you email good articles you read to everyone in your address book. It only takes a couple of keystrokes. Here are some places to start:

2.  Tell the Truth

It’s time to stop being intimidated by the left into using politically correct speech. Do you realize that when the mother wants an abortion, the baby is now called a “fetus”? Demotion to fetus status means one thing: it’s ok to kill the child. Do we understand the hypocrisy that our children are called “babies” and “children” when we want them, but “fetuses,” “products of conception,” and “tissue” when we don’t want them? Let’s stop playing the games of the left. A young, frightened girl may make a choice to keep her child because of our honesty.
Reject what the mainstream media is doing. Fight back with the truth.

From now on, tell it like it really is, “Women, when you have an abortion, you are killing a human being. Yes, this child is your baby. Don’t listen to the media and politicians who try to spin the truth.” Don’t make such a tragic mistake.

3. Get Involved in Your Kids’ Lives

Do you realize how much money Planned Parenthood is spending to “educate” your children at school? They are using millions of your tax dollars to encourage young girls to be promiscuous.hooking kids on sex
One video, used in a classroom setting, is an MTV video targeting teens and tweens on Planned Parenthood’s Info for Teens Facebook page. The lead-in to the video starts with, “There’s tons of ways that people define ‘slut.'” This denigrating video encourages young girls to become promiscuous and emphasizes that others should respect them because, as sluts, they are “confident in their sexuality.” Teens are told that they should, “Be careful when you throw a word like ‘slut’ around. It should only be used for good.” This “Sextra Credit” video portrays being a slut as a desirable thing. According to PP, those who would criticize these girls are actually the wicked people.

Planned Parenthood is not about women’s health. They are about promoting promiscuity to make money. They make a good deal of their money promoting abortion. Here, from an article published by American Life League’s STOPP report (November, 2012) are the reasons why Planned Parenthood promotes promiscuity:

How it plays out for Planned Parenthood:
– Millions of taxpayer dollars in PP bank accounts

– PP executives in top 1.5 percent of household incomes nationwide

– Kids brainwashed by “sex positive” messages

– Kids become sexually active at very young ages

– Their health is ravaged by STDs  (more money for PP)

– Out of wedlock pregnancies result

– Planned Parenthood goes in for the kill—abortion—generating much, much more money

– Repeat the scenario over and over

– Planned Parenthood gets filthy rich

Now let’s see how this plays out for families:

– Families have no money because the government gave it to Planned

Parenthood

– Kids corrupted by Planned Parenthood

– Wedge driven between parents and children

– Kids’ souls stolen by sexual promiscuity

– Their health ravaged by STDs

– Hearts deadened by multiple hook-ups and resultant heartbreak

– Kids depressed and suicidal

– They engage in drug and alcohol abuse

– Children/grandchildren killed inside Planned Parenthood facilities without the knowledge or permission of adult family members

– America stands on the precipice of depopulation and financial collapse due to lack of younger workers to support an aging population

“It’s a temporary win for Planned Parenthood and a FAIL for families.

But, hey, be careful how you throw that word “slut” around. Only use it for good.”
We are at war. The enemy is winning small battles everywhere while we worry over who is going to win the Academy Awards.

Our best offensive weapon is prayer (Ephesians 6). Let’s also roll up our sleeves and go to work where we can. We can end abortion in our generation. Next week, I’ll post some encouraging news about the legislative battles that are beginning to roll back the death sentence for unborn babies.

It came about that when she (Achsah) came to him, she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. So she alighted from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” Then she said, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So he (Caleb) gave her the upper springs and the lower springs. (Joshua 15:18,19).

Imagine what it must have been like to live your entire youth as a nomad. Your people wander through a wilderness area for many years. Every morning you wake up and get to look forward to manna for breakfast, manna for lunch, and manna for dinner. There are constant threats from hostile neighbors. What are your options here? You can just try and get by or you can wander around with a chip on your shoulder.

Or you can keep your faith in God. You know that at some point you and your family will Achsahfind a permanent home because God promised it. You grew up with a man who lived his life in obedience to God and taught you to trust God also. This is the story of Achsah, brave and determined daughter of Caleb.

Many of the Israelites did not believe God. After they came out of Egypt their leader Moses sent twelve spies into the land promised by God. Ten of the spies would not trust in God’s strength to fight for them. Only Joshua and Caleb insisted that the people should not rebel against God “and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them” (Numbers 14:9).

All of the then living adults, including the ten cowardly spies, died in the wilderness for their sin over a period of forty years. Achsah and the others who had been born since then would go into the Promised Land with only two of the original generation remaining alive – their new leader, Joshua, and Achsah’s father, Caleb.

By now these men were in their eighties, but God had blessed them with health and vitality. Caleb said, “I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in” (Joshua 14:11).

Caleb still had enough strength to do battle against the giants in the land of Canaan. Joshua allowed Caleb to subdue the particular piece of land that would be his own eventually. It included the “hill country about which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the Lord will be with me and I will drive them out as the Lord has spoken” (Joshua 14:12). This land was the area around Hebron.

Caleb drove out all of the inhabitants and was given the land. While doing battle he put forward an interesting proposition. He pledged his daughter to the brave man who would conquer Kiriath-sepher.

If we didn’t understand what was really going on we might be tempted to think that Caleb was just an opportunist using his daughter as a pawn. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Don’t forget, he was an old man. He was looking forward to retiring. He knew this land would go to his descendants. Caleb was concerned that he got a really worthy son-in-law and not just a mediocre husband for his daughter who would be a great heiress. This new son-in-law must be courageous, smart, uncompromising in faith, and as strong as himself. He wanted a man who would help his daughter raise his descendants to wholeheartedly worship Yahweh.

Othniel was such a man. He proved his love for God, his uncle Caleb, and Achsah by capturing Kiriath-sepher. He won his bride and they were ready to settle down and enjoy their blessings.

However, the land of the Negev that they were given was very dry and barren. It would have been difficult to grow crops there or water livestock.

And so, Achsah ventured forth to visit her father. This woman had inherited his courage and faith. She grew up with a man who had stayed the course. Achsah learned from her years in the wilderness that God wants to bless those who stay true to Him. She saw God’s promises come true and she dared to ask for what she needed.

Achsah:springs of waterWhen Achsah alighted from her donkey Caleb asked her what she wanted. She boldly requested, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs” (Joshua 15:19).

Achsah had three brothers. No doubt Caleb provided for them too, but we don’t know much about them. We have only Achsah’s story given to us by the Holy Spirit.

Though Solomon would not write about the Proverbs 31 woman for hundreds of years in the future, Achsah would have fitted the image very well.

Note three of the many ways:
1. Achsah proved that she was a good businesswoman. She knew that the land would now be worth much more than before. She and Othniel would be able to take care of a very large household. Caravans would be able to stop and water their animals. Travelers would be able to bring trade. She would be like the “merchant ships; she brings her food from afar” (Proverbs 31:14).

2.  “The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain” (Proverbs 31:11). Othniel let Achsah ask her father for the land with the springs. Her husband trusted her. Perhaps this was because he knew that his wife had learned courage, strength, and fortitude from her father. We don’t know how old Achsah was when the Israelites reached the Promised Land, but she must have watched her father all of her life be one of the bravest, strongest, and most faithful of men. She certainly learned her boldness at the knee of an expert! Perhaps she was the apple of her father’s eye as his fearless daughter.

3.  “Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land” (Proverbs 31:23). Here is an amazing thing. Truly this husband of Achsah was well known in the gates as the first judge of Israel. We have a continuation of the story of Caleb, Achsah, and Othniel later in the book of Judges. (See Judges 3:9-11.)

Othniel continued to prove that Caleb’s faith in him was correct. As part of his responsibility as judge he had to go to war against Cushan-rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia. God blessed Othniel with extra strength as He had his father-in-law. Othniel prevailed against Israel’s enemy and then the land had rest for forth years.

What can we learn from Achsah’s story?

Achsah was blessed with a godly father and husband. Caleb wanted her to be protected when he was gone. He wanted to be sure that she would be able to enjoy her inheritance and pass it on the their progeny. That is why he put forth a challenge that would bring forth the right man for her.

We can be like Achsah when we pray. She had strong faith and trust that God would keep His promises. Our heavenly Father wants to bless us. We should be bold as she was when we present our petitions. We should not be surprised if our Father gives us even more than we asked.

Achsah was a woman who boldly asked.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened…. how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”  (Matthew 7: 7,8,11).

then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive and act and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know, for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men, that they may fear You all the days that they live in the land which You have given to our fathers (I Kings 8:39,40).

In this great passage, Solomon is asking God’s blessing on His people, the Israelites. solomon:templePlease take some time to read the whole chapter. Solomon lists all of the mistakes that the nation of Israel could (and actually did as we know) make, especially the worst one – dishonoring God.

It seems to be part of our human nature to go along without remembering God while we are prospering. We don’t remember God until things get drastic. A perfect example of this is 9/11. The churches were filled to capacity the next Sunday. After that, as the apparent threat diminished, attendance dropped off again.

Why do we continually repeat history? Solomon was only the second king in Israel. Things started out pretty good right after the temple was built. But Israel had a history of forgetting God when times were prosperous. During the times of the Judges Israel kept going through cycles of sin/judgment/repentance/redemption/peace. After a few years of ease and peace with their neighbors, they started the whole cycle again. Why didn’t they learn?

Solomon tried to tell them that it was about time they got the message. Honor God – receive blessings. Forget God – receive judgment. We know from the history in the Bible that they didn’t learn.

Why don’t we learn?

We have no excuse since God has given us His Word and His history and we should learn from that.

“Well,” you respond, “I don’t believe that pertains to us today. God has a new plan since Jesus came.”

Really? What is that? Can anyone honestly say, looking at history – all of history – that any nation has risen to prominence without God’s blessing? Is there any nation that has not fallen due to its own wickedness?

We have been really blessed in this country. If there is something that we should have learned by now it is that WE DON’T HAVE TO REPEAT THE SINS OF OUR FATHERS! There is no such thing as being locked into a cycle. History does not control us. It is not our FATE to repeat it. God is in control.

Jesus Christ came to set us free. Yes, this means that we are set free from the bondage of sin. We are free to love and serve the Lord Jesus. That is on an individual level. This freedom should spread to the community of believers. Why?

Simply because a free people can worship God more freely. A free people can build churches. A free people can pool their money and resources together and preach the Gospel to the whole world as Jesus asked us to do (Matthew 28:19,20).

A free people can minister to the poor and oppressed in their communities without government interference. Free people can talk about sin out loud without being arrested for a hate crime. Free people can vote out ungodly leaders. Free people can close down abortion mills. Free people can ban pornography. Free people can join together to get tough laws put in place that will punish evildoers. The list goes on.

My Christian friends, we are watching our freedoms disappear at an alarming rate. And at the same time, the whole country is sinking into degeneration without the Gospel witness.

What do you want your grandchildren to read about when they read the history of our generation?

What history are we writing today? We are writing it – each and every one of us. Fifty years from now, what shall they read?

2013 was a watershed year in our history. That was the year that the president of the United States pulled out all the rest of the stops and declared himself dictator.

Oh, he didn’t act or speak like a tyrant. He merely played on the fact that the American people had defacto decided that he knew best about every area of their lives.

In order to be protected from terrorists, the people surrendered their entire set of freedoms granted to them under the Constitution of the United States. The Constitution was declared an outdated document, and now only the executive branch of government would have power. The legislative and judicial branches only existed to endorse whatever the executor said.

Christians went along with this. After all, there is a policy of separation of church and state and everybody knows that means that Christians have to keep quiet about their religion. They can’t offend anybody with their narrow, bigoted beliefs.

Christians decided to get along they had to go along and so all religious freedoms went out of the door without so much as a whisper against the tyranny of the state.”

Unfortunately, that is the way it is looking for our future.

My prayer is that Christians will wake up. I pray that there will be a different story for our grandchildren to read.

2013 was a watershed year in our history. That was the year that Christians got down on their knees and repented of their sin of neglecting God.

That was the year that Christians woke up and realized that because of their laziness, they were leaving their children and grandchildren a country with none of the freedoms that they had enjoyed during their lives and decided to do something about it.

1st amendment scrollThat was the year that Christians stopped believing the lie that separation of church and state means the state gets to be dictator. Christians actually read the Bill of Rights and realized that the first amendment guarantees them freedom of religion. This freedom was won for them by their Christian ancestors who came to this country so that they could be salt and light as Christ commanded. Their Christian great-grandparents made many sacrifices so that their posterity could enjoy freedom to preach and teach the Gospel.

That was the year they remembered that the “price of liberty is eternal vigilance”. They turned off their television sets and got to work to restore their waning freedoms. They called the unscrupulous politicians to account. Only men and women interested in obeying the law and serving the people rather than themselves could be elected.

Christians knew that they would have to pick up the slack when the government no longer intruded into every aspect of their lives. And so they stopped spending money on selfish pursuits and they began to build hospitals again and other care centers for the poor.

Taking the Gospel of the Kingdom seriously, Christians began to follow Jesus in everyJesus-healing-woman area of their lives. Obeying Christ’s commands to love the Lord their God with all of their hearts, souls, and minds and to love their neighbors as themselves (Matthew 22:37-39) Christians worked in their communities to bring the love of Christ to everyone even as Christians had done in many other times in history.

Today, thanks to these farsighted Christians, there are ministries that help people to lead productive lives with dignity. Today, with no more government interference, caring for the poor and disadvantaged in society has become not only efficient and effective, but also personal and loving as Jesus did.

We are thankful that our Christian grandfathers and grandmothers made the sacrifices that they had to so that we can continue to enjoy our freedoms today – not just for our own personal happiness – but so that others can experience the love of Christ.”
